For over 20 years I tried to be admitted to go and minister to the inmates, and for 20
years I was blocked. Then one day the Lord opened the door for me in a miraculous
way. Thanks to God, this year will be the 23 rd year that I get to minister to the people in Correctional Services in George every Monday and every Thursday.
We’ve been to a lot of other Correctional Services as well, to learn from them, to see
what is working and what is not. People often say to me that we’re wasting our time
going to those people, they deserve to sit behind bars. I simply reply, “Yes, that is
true, but there by the Grace of God go I.”
We used to go into the cells, but it was deemed too dangerous after a while because there are often 38 to 40 people in a cell. So now, instead of going into the cells, groups of people are brought to us in an office to be ministered to.
You win some, you lose some and sometimes you see miracles happen! For example, on Monday I had a crowd of 17 people all from different backgrounds and speaking different languages. During and after the meeting, some of those inmates came to me with tears rolling down their cheeks to tell me that the word really spoke to them. I was speaking about the love of God for human beings – that He does not give up on us. So many times people tend to write us off when we stumble and we fail them. But God will not so easily write you off because He’s paid too high a price for every person.
Every time I walk out of there, whether I feel in my spirit that I’ve achieved something or not, I have peace in my heart because I’ve obeyed the Lord and done what He has told me to do. So many times I’ve seen wonderful things happening there, and sometimes I walk out there thinking I’ve completely missed it. But I found that it is often those times when you feel that you’ve missed it completely that God works in people’s lives. And it is for this reason that I go. These people need to know that there is another way, the way with Jesus.
I’m very privileged to still be able to go into Correctional Services here in George, to tell them about the wonderful love that God demonstrated to us through His Son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
